I've compiled a list of songs featured in Rock Band that use a cover, live, or re-recorded version of their song that have not yet gotten a custom for original versions and I would really like to see people make customs.

***NOTE: THIS LIST DOES NOT CONTAIN RBN SONGS THAT HAVE YET TO BE RELEASED IN RB4. I AM CONSIDERING MAKING A SEPARATE LIST FOR THAT SOME OTHER DAY***

Covers to Original

Aerosmith - Train Kept A-Rollin'
Black Sabbath - N.I.B. (Completed! Full band custom by MrBurpler; uploaded to the database on 04/16/2020)
Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love (Completed! Full band custom by PikedPike; uploaded to the database on 06/18/2020)
David Bowie - Queen Bitch
The Knack - My Sharona
The Monkees - Last Train to Clarksville
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides
The Runaways - Cherry Bomb (I prefer not to use the re-recorded version from Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock)
The Sounds - Song with a Mission
Sweet - Action
T. Rex - Bang a Gong (Get It On)

Live to Studio

AC/DC - Fire Your Guns
AC/DC - Heatseeker
AC/DC - Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be (Completed! Full band custom by SomeOldGuys; uploaded to the database on 04/01/2020)
AC/DC - The Jack (Completed! Full band custom by SomeOldGuys; uploaded to the database on 04/05/2020)
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies (Don't use cover version from Guitar Hero II)
Alice Cooper - Under My Wheels
Anthrax - Metal Thrashing Mad
The Band - Chest Fever
The Band - The Weight
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
Cheap Trick - Surrender (Don't use cover version from Guitar Hero II)
Def Leppard - Animal
The Fireman (Paul McCartney) - Sing the Changes
Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor
Judas Priest - Eat Me Alive
Judas Priest - Grinder
Judas Priest - Metal Gods (Completed! Full band custom by nsw1-6; uploaded to the database on 04/12/2020)
Judas Priest - Prophecy
Judas Priest - The Rage
Judas Priest - Rapid Fire
Judas Priest - Steel
Judas Priest - United (Completed! Full band custom by nsw1-6; uploaded to the database on 04/13/2020)
Judas Priest - You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise
Kansas - Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)
Kansas - Point of Know Return
Kiss - 100,000 Years (Completed! Full band custom by AJFOne23; uploaded to the database on 05/07/2020)
Kiss - Deuce
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Oasis - Supersonic
Pearl Jam - State of Love and Trust
Phish - Wilson
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Century City
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Even the Loser
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Here Comes the Girl
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Jammin' Me
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Mary Jane's Last Dance
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Nightwatchman
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - A Thing About You
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - The Waiting
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - A Woman in Love (It's Not Me)
The Who - Magic Bus

Some songs have live versions officially released by Harmonix where they are considered to be superior than the preceding studio versions by a wide margin, which is why they don't have customs yet. These songs are completely optional to make.

Bob Marley and the Wailers - No Woman, No Cry
Cheap Trick - I Want You to Want Me (There also exists an alternate studio version based on the live recording, so you can use that version if you don't like the original studio version)
Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do

Then, these are two live songs released by Harmonix where the live version is the real version of the song. These two songs by the Who were first released as a live recording in their Live at Leeds album, therefore making them the definitive version. Studio versions were eventually released in the 1998 remastered edition of their 1974 rarities album, Odds & Sods, but much like the two songs above, the live versions are considered the better versions. These songs are optional as well.
The Who - Summertime Blues
The Who - Young Man Blues

Re-recording to Original (Tell me if there is more re-recordings in the game that I haven't noticed yet)

Devo - Girl U Want
Devo - Through Being Cool
Devo - Uncontrollable Urge
Devo - Whip It
EMF - Unbelievable
James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good)
Johnny Cash - The Ballad of Ira Hayes
Johnny Cash - Cry, Cry, Cry!
Johnny Cash - Don't Take Your Guns to Town
Johnny Cash - Five Feet High and Rising
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Johnny Cash - I Got Stripes
Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
Johnny Cash - Tennessee Flat Top Box
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Motorhead - Killed by Death
Motorhead - (We Are) The Road Crew
The Muffs - Outer Space
Night Ranger - (You Can Still) Rock in America
Scorpions - No One Like You (Found in forums)
Social Distortion - Bad Luck
Social Distortion - I Was Wrong
Social Distortion - Ring of Fire
Social Distortion - Story of My Life
Stray Cats (Brian Setzer) - Rock This Town
Stroke 9 - Kick Some Ass
Stroke 9 - Little Black Backpack
Third Eye Blind - Never Let You Go
Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life
Tommy Tutone - 867-5309/Jenny (Completed! Full band custom by SomeOldGuys; uploaded to the database on 04/11/2020)

SPECIAL EDITION: Unused master recording to original
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Stone Free

Rock Band 2 released the master recording of "Stone Free" that appeared in Jimi Hendrix's posthumous album Valleys of Neptune, which was unused for the Are You Experienced? album. Whether people prefer this version or the original is unknown to me, so I'll leave it to you.

These are all the songs that have yet to get their original versions made in the database. A collaborative effort would be appreciated, not just one person doing all of the work. I prefer all of the customs to be full band, with either auto or certified reductions made. Hope this gets completed soon!

Nice list, thanks for going to the trouble. The re-recordings don't bother me too much, but the covers definitely bug me. War Pigs is another one that you could add if you're making a comprehensive list.

Someone already made a custom for War Pigs.

The live version of Drunken Lullabies is the definitive version, heretic.

Even moreso with Frampton!!! Listen to the studio version and tell me why you would want it.

But yeah, the live Supersonic by Oasis is crap. And interesting list! Thanks for the knowledge.

LOL - It's like requesting a studio version of Bennie and the Jets

I can say I know of few of these are indeed in the works on some WIP pages like

Kiss - 100,000 Years

AC/DC - all of them (gonna be finishing the discography next)

It is? Honestly I've never listened to either songs. I just searched for which songs were live versions and just put them on the list. Apologies if that ticked you off. But thanks for sharing your opinion.

Haha I already know Bennie and the Jets is a live song. It's one of my favorite Elton John songs.

But it's nice to see some work being done! Thanks!

I'd also like to mention I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown. The version on the RB3 disc is different from the original in pretty much every way.

Yes that's true. I'll add it to the list. Thanks for telling me.

The studio version of Time Bomb has already been made into a custom.

Also if you're including all of them, then the studio verson I Want You to Want Me, as boring as it is, should be included.

Thanks for telling me about Time Bomb. I could've swore that I searched it up and found nothing.

As for I Want You to Want Me, who would want the studio version? Live is the superior version. Unless the studio version is the alternate version based on the live recording...

I just checked the database and the studio version of Time Bomb is not there. If you were talking about the Rancid song, then you would be correct. But I didn't find the Old 97's version.

Yeah, I only mentioned it for completion's sake. :haw: (Then again, you could say the same for Do You Feel Like We Do.) Though the studio re-recording would be interesting. The best version of the song is that alternate live version that was in Band Hero.

Also, here is Time Bomb.

Thanks for the Time Bomb custom. This should've been posted in the database, but oh well!

It's actually there, you just have to search for "Timebomb" instead of "Time Bomb".

I understand the confusion, though.

The Live at Leeds version of "Summertime Blues" is considered the Who's definitive version.  In fact, while they were recorded before Live at Leeds the studio versions (more than one) were not released until 1998 and beyond.  So I don't think we need a studio custom for that one.

And llke ATrueJedi said, the live version of Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel like We Do" is also the definitive one.  In this case, the studio version did actually come out first, but no one knows it.

You could have also listed Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me", but there's no need.  The live one is again the definitive one.

Thanks for telling about Summertime Blues. I also found out Young Man Blues does not have a studio version so we don't need a custom for that.

Now that I have seen the differences between the two, you are correct. Live version is the definitive version for Do You Feel Like We Do. It is much longer (fourteen minutes compared to the six minutes of the studio version) and the studio version is apparently slightly slower. Thanks for telling me!
