My donation pledge total is so far (sadly) on the low end...but if and when that amount drastically increases, then I may consider splitting it up. For now, it doesn't make sense to do that.

What was I gonna say? I got nothing against Blondie. I was actually discussing with some fellow authors about charting "Atomic" when DemonUnicorns released his pack.

Which is an awesome pack, by the way. Thanks DemonUnicorns!

70s 6-Pack
by nsw1-6
with the assistance of AJFOne23, TheWay123, and Bansheeflyer

Renaissance - Carpet of the Sun
vjmo7uemf1pdp8c6g.jpg

Audio Source Lineage: 1973 US Vinyl -> ION Profile LP/PreAmp -> Audacity -> Some loss
The first appearance of this band to the C3 database, as well as my first custom completed all by myself. From a great and underrated symphonic prog band that had its run during the 70s, this non-single cut from one of their classic records, Ashes Are Burning, sure does feel like one.

FM - Phasors On Stun
jz7hh6t7kyj33xj6g.jpg

Drums/Venues/Assistance: TheWay123
Audio Source Lineage: 1976 Analog Master -> 1978 US Vinyl -> ION Profile LP/PreAmp -> Audacity -> Click/Noise Removal -> Speed Correction
Opening track to the first album by the second-greatest 70s Canadian prog band, FM! (Rush fans, beware their musical prowess) An ode to science fiction, as with the rest of the album, this song is pretty big without boasting guitar chops. More to come from this album in the future after their first time in the database.

Lake - On the Run
s50lulxqrbd53ui6g.jpg

Audio Source Lineage: 1976 Analog Master -> 1978 US Vinyl -> ION Profile LP/PreAmp -> Audacity -> Click/Noise Removal
Here's something a little more esoteric for those not well-versed in early AOR groups. The first database appearance of German-British rock group, Lake, featuring their hit single from their eponymous first album. The band soon faded into obscurity after a decade, but have rejoined since and still perform in Europe to this day.

Gentle Giant - Playing the Game
ok93zkbm162cp056g.jpg

OD/Playtesting/Consuling: TheWay123
Audio Source Lineage: 1974 Analog Master -> 1974 US Vinyl -> ION Profile LP/PreAmp -> Audacity -> Click/Noise Removal -> Detailed Click removal
My first Gentle Giant custom to start off many future releases from this wonderful group, who pushed pop and prog to its creative edges throughout the 70s. Probably the greatest cut off this fine prog classic, showcasing the band's knack for melodic counterpoint. For those wondering, those "marima sounds" are actually a constructed three-stringed instrument called the "Shulberry".

Yes - No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed
3n4y7gcsrkjce616g.jpg

Dryvox/Venues/Fixes/Finishing Touches: AJFOne23
Audio Source Lineage: 1970 Analog Master -> 2003 Rhino Remaster? -> Speed Correction
Well here we have another non-single "hit" by Yes (the formerly rare music video seems to make it so). Played heavily by the group in their early days, this churning rocker backed by an orchestra definitely shows off the talents of Squire and the underrated Tony Kaye. (So blistering that I couldn't chart the Keys just yet, sorry!)

The Who - Love, Reign O'er Me
4g69b6e0ae1x6v36g.jpg

Dryvox/Venues/Fixes/Finishing Touches: AJFOne23
5-Lane Keys-Reductions: Bansheeflyer
Audio Source Lineage: 1973 Multitrack tapes -> 1996 Remix
This long-awaited request was a long 9 months in gestation, but it has finally come to term and here for you to play. Featuring a brilliant piano intro, our protagonist of Quadrophenia laments on The Rock near the coast to contemplate about his troubles in life and what he seeks to do about it.

Ellie Goulding - Lights
B3ubAhA.jpg

Ellie Goulding was welcomed into the mainstream with open arms thanks to this spotlight song. Released in the US as the first track in her debut EP, Ellie Goulding sings to the world about her traumatic childhood experiences in the dark until a hero showed her the way. After being satisfied with her first impressions, she emphasized the song, releasing an album and single version of the same name several months later.

Do you like this release? Awesome! If would have downloaded this release even if it was paid DLC, please donate 90 cents per song to the Make-A-Wish foundation please, well be forever grateful!

Song count so far: 54

Wow!

The further we progress into C3Thon, author submissions get even more impressive. Outstanding work everyone!

Thanks Naruto and crew for the prog pack. It adds much more depth and variety to the game from our user/player perspective.

Oddbrother's choice of Ellie Goulding's Lights comes as a very pleasant surprise as well. A 'must have' for our library. Thank You!

Farottone was right, at the rate this is going, I BELIEVE it's gonna be a TON of great new content!

It's just gonna be tough making cuts on my usb stick to accommodate the 3k limit for the game...what to do?, what to do?....

You bet'cha there'll be another donation from the Funks come Friday! Keep killing it guys! :D

(Bansheeflyer, DemonUnicorns was correct.....I figured you'd 'nitpick' Blondie's "Dreaming" not 'technically' being an 80's tune ;)).

If I appear to be a little "off center", pay it no mind.

Pixies 7-pack
by Kloporte and MrPrezident

Pixies - Gigantic
8GzP1na.jpg

Possibly the most recognizable bass riff of the late 80's, one night bassist Kim Deal sat down with her husband and wrote this song about a white woman watching a black man have sex. It is one of the only Pixies songs that Kim takes the lead vocals on, and a crowd favourite.

Pixies - Broken Face
U4nn26q.jpg

You have to leave it to Black Francis to write a catchy punk song about self mutilation, facial disfigurement, and incest. However despite this the song leaves you very satisfied (and maybe a bit dirty).

Pixies - Wave of Mutilation UK Surf
hUroH6Q.jpg

The title of the song refers to a phenomenon that swept Japan in the late 80's which involved Japanese men driving off piers due to failures in business. Rock Band 1 included the original studio version from Doolitle, but they also recorded this slowed-down version, and many concerts feature both versions.

Pixies - What Goes Boom
OLB3Mwi.jpg

Guitarist Joey Santiago claimed 2013's "What Goes Boom" is simply about a girl who plays bass guitar, and also "..a ballsy song with balls-out playing, and it harkens back to a lot of the harder-edged Pixies stuff, which is my favourite to play"

Pixies - Is She Weird

8VaopNs.jpg

This song is as weird as it is catchy. The lyrics are surreal and often sexual, and the song gradually gets more and more intense.
Preview video

Pixies - Break My Body

7GEqWjg.jpg

Once again, the lyrics are very sexual and ambiguous. Some claim it's about self-hatred, others will say it's S&M or incest. The chorus features a great duet between Frank Black and Kim Deal.
Preview video

Pixies - Alec Eiffel

24geD20.jpg

The song references the French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, who designed the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty; Francis thought it was a "fascinating subject" to compose a song about. This song is pretty fast-paced and guitar is definitely the highlight of this song.

It's cool to see some multitracks (I know they're rare to get), but I wish there was a Wii-compatible multitrack for this song. If the MOGG wasn't protected I'd do it myself, but if you're willing to PM me it I can put together a Wii version for you to share.

There's a surprising lack of Bemani music in Rock Band (one of these days I'm gonna finish that RED ZONE/Butterfly/Boom Boom Dollar 3-pack...), so here's beatmania IIDX 18 Resort Anthem's One More Extra Stage. It's infamous in its home series for having loads of turntable notes (more than 1/3 of them on the hardest difficulty!) and now you get to try and replicate them on a plastic guitar.

Guitar: You play the scratches, and they're relentless. All over the place, mostly 16ths with a couple of 32nd runs... have fun.

Bass: It's mostly just a simplified version of the Keys chart. Not hard, but pretty fun.

Drums: Lots of quick hi-hat runs with off-beat kicks thrown in. The only difference between 1x and 2x is halved kicks in one section near the beginning.

Vocals: Mostly just shouts of "Yo!" and "Hey!", but there are two pretty fun percussion sections.

Keys: Lots of chords... and some extremely fast strings of notes. Hammer those keys!

Thanks to atupomaruru and TheWay123 for advice on the Keys chart!
