Just poppin' in to say that it's nice to update this thread with more and more songs that I and others who aren't me publish. Today I got to add a Joel Plaskett song that I collaborated with MrPrezident on into the thread and a great Wombats tune that I wanted but didn't have to make, thanks to BornGamerRob. Dope!

Also, this is my suggestions thread. So, please, don't suggest suggestions for me to suggest. :D

Hi, is this a thread where I can request songs/albums?

I'd love to see some Jean-Luc Ponty songs from the albums Cosmic Messenger, Fables, Enigmatic Ocean, Civilized Evil or a Taste for passion.

The artist IQ also got some pretty cool albums I'd love to see: Frequency, Are You sitting comfortably? and Tales from the Lush Attic.

Personally I just play drums and consider picking up keyboard. I would LOVE to see songs from these amazing albums to be made for Rock Band 3!

No.

Moving on...

In the past 6 months, many more songs initially featured years ago in this thread have been released. Do you have a song you want to get into the game? Then learn to author! If I did it, so can you!

American Aquarium

American+Aquarium.jpg

Background: I only began listening to American Aquarium in the past year or so, but they've dominated my scobbles since then. I got to see them perform live last year and it was enthralling. Singer/songwriter BJ Barham is enrapturing when on stage (and an awesome dude off-stage!) and I highly recommend you catch their show if they come to your area! Today I got an email about them coming back to town this spring, and in anticipation of seeing them perform for a second time, I put on six of their albums while at work and landed here to share these recommendations with you.

The Obvious Choice:

The World is On Fire

Album: Things Change (2018)

I got a baby girl comin' in the spring
I worry 'bout the world she's comin' into
But she'll have my fight
She'll have her mama's fire
If anyone builds a wall in her journey, baby, bust right through

I was enraptured the first time I heard this song, and it was the tune that got me into the band. The lyrics are so compelling and depressing and hopeful, which is the exact cocktail I need after a long day of living in this increasingly chaotic, unpredictable world. I can't deny that it helps that the song is (heavily) implicitly anti-Trump.

Vocals: Male lead with female harmony accompanying. I love BJ's voice so much, and this song showcases the gravitas he brings to the band's music.
Guitar: Gorgeous pedal steel guitar and a solo to boot.
Bass: Somber and nothing special.
Drums: Simplistic but intense.
Keys: Hammond Organ, of course.
Miscellaneous: Crisp ending.

Runner-Up:

Burn.Flicker.Die.

Album: Burn.Flicker.Die. (2012)

Every now and then she still crosses my mind
And by every now and then I mean most of the time
By every now and then I mean all of the time...

A moving song about mortality and love. In the past year, BJ has rapidly become one of my favorite lyricists, and this song is a great example of why.

Vocals: Some good opportunities for drunken sing-alongs with your friends. Just try not to get emotional!
Guitar: Standard alt-country stuff.
Bass: Basic but it should keep your interest.
Drums: A bit more interesting than above. Your heart should be pounding.
Keys: Some sparse organ hiding in the background, but nothing necessary for full-banding.
Miscellaneous: Crisp ending.

The Personal Favorite:

PBR Promenade

Album: Dances for the Lonely (2009)

Your blue eyes like a lighthouse on that dark, deserted shore
And I am just a broken ship at sea...

First things first: Pabst Blue Ribbon has a bad reputation, but it isn't awful. In fact, increasingly, when I go to shows that's the beer I'll get, because it's cheap and inoffensive. Second things second: this song is about as country as I get, and I love every minute of it.

Vocals: Very sparse harmonies. The melody is the star this time.
Guitar: Whining and somber, but of course there's a delightful solo.
Bass: Basic.
Drums: Basic stuff.
Keys: None.
Miscellaneous: Crisp ending.

The Change of Pace:

Tellin' a Lie

Album: The Bible & The Bottle (2008)

And your blue eyes like a lighthouse on that dark, deserted shore
And I am just a broken ship at sea...

Well, I accidentally chose three real downers for the above choices, so I wanted to pick up the pace with something faster and fun. This one is guaranteed to getcher body movin'!

Vocals: This one is much more about the instruments than the vocals (for once), so let the band rock while you sing along.
Guitar: An upbeat alt-country fair with an awesome solo!
Bass: Bouncy and fun!
Drums: Fun and interesting!
Keys: Lots of organ, an organ solo, piano, a piano solo, and a violin solo. Everything is happening.
Miscellaneous: Big rock ending. Because obviously.
