Hi everyone.

As you may or may not know, most C3 files are hosted on my private server. That includes everything with a d.php link on our database, as well as the software we have created and share here. There are other miscellaneous files associated with C3 and/or customs in general.

Of particular interest:
- most C3 customs
- the Customs Repository
- the Album Art Repository
- the RBHP project files
- the Genesis project, with the website, files, etc
- all my tools

And others.

THESE FILES ARE COMING DOWN SOON.

My server is hosted by GoDaddy, and while I have upgraded to "Ultimate" and "Unlimited" - it is still a shared hosting space, which comes with limitations. As of today GoDaddy has given me 7 days to remove all these files or my entire hosting account will be suspended for violating their TOS (using their hosting for mass file storage and sharing - nothing to do with the actual content of the files). As you can imagine, I have other projects, professional and otherwise, that rely on that hosting space. So we have to take the files down.

Farottone has root access to the server and he is making a local copy of the files. I'm also currently downloading a local copy of the files. All in all, there is over 135GB worth of Rock Band related content on my server. So this will take a while.

If there is anything you wanted to download, please do so now. I guarantee I won't delete anything until after noon EST Monday April 24, 2017. After that, files will slowly start to go away, which means links will slowly stop working.

THIS IS NOT PERMANENT

Well, it's permanent on KeepItFishy.com, but we are actively looking at other solutions. In a perfect world, everything will be back up and running seamlessly and with no downtime. In the real world, farottone and I are very busy with our daily lives to get it done so quickly. And did I mention it's over 135GB worth of stuff?

So eventually things will be back up and nicely. But expect downtime.

Until there is another announcement, please do not report broken links.

If you're one of the few remaining C3 authors who upload to KeepItFishy.com to then share your customs, that of course will no longer work either. You can use MediaFire.com or a similar alternative until things are worked out again. Please do not report broken FTP access.

Once we tell you it's all back up (or should be), then we'll probably ask for broken link reports and I personally will try to fix them, since it's something I can do even while I'm at work. I'm not sure what will replace the current FTP process, but farottone will probably be the one to provide you with that information when it's worked out.

Sorry that this had to happen. We have pushed GoDaddy's crappy shared servers to the brink a few times. Having several hundred folders and over 16,000 files and over 135GB worth of little Rock Band files takes a toll on a shared server environment. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long to happen.

I've been using this space to host RB3 content since I first learned about customs in late 2011, and all the way through C3's conception to end, and now some 18 months + since C3 stopped. It sucks to have to stop, but I don't have a choice.

I'm sure whatever we come up with next will probably be even better. So stay tuned for news.

UPDATE

We have identified and started using the new host. It's gonna be a more structured solution, more robust and ideally it should be way faster than before. It all comes at a price though. One is cost itself, which is our burden. The other is that some more work server side is needed to tie everything together. Everything might be up again next week, and then we're off to updating the DB, which should take no more than a few BILLION DAYS, since we have so many links to update...

Well that stinks royally, but thankfully it had nothing to do with the content.

Please do not report broken links.

Maybe we can put this in bold at the top of the Customs Database page and/or in the rules during this transfer phase. It seems like overkill, but I have a feeling some are going to ask this stupid question regardless.

Nevermind, I see that it's pinned to this forum.

Thanks for letting me know, I still have to download all of TBRB files. Thanks for this so that I don't freak out when I decide to download a bunch of songs and have a party.

Gotta love hosting sites that promise "unlimited" space and bandwidth but then attach so many strings that they make it all but impossible to actually hold them to that "unlimited" promise.

This is why, during my brief tenure at a web hosting company that offered "unlimited" accounts, I would tell potential customers that a better word for it is "unmetered".  While you could rest assured you would never be charged extra for using "too much" storage space or "too much" bandwidth, you could still get in trouble if you were found to be a resource hog compared to your neighbors on the same server.  Of course "unmetered" doesn't sound as attractive in the advertisements, so instead they would say "unlimited" and hope you don't notice the asterisk.

Fortunately, thanks to cloud storage, virtual servers and the like, you no longer have to lease an entire physical server to get dedicated, mostly-unrestricted storage space, so fairly-cheap options are out there.

Thanks again, Nemo, for all you do!

Cloud hosting is not as attractive unfortunately when all you do is serve big files.

Crap. I have so much content (all the Wii stuff) on there. I guess I'll try to back up everything to a drive before it's too late.

Why is everyone reading this as "WE WILL LOSE EVERYTHING!"? We have already downloaded everything locally in double copy and it's only a matter of finding a host that does not ask for a first born child as collateral.

In the interim, do you think it's worthwhile to link any personal C3 Releases in an Other Custom's post to like MediaFire or something? Or avoid confusion and just keep everything in one place until it's reestablished? I know I've still been using the c3 fishy for of recent projects just to keep it all in one place. Hopefully it won't be a month+ turnaround but it is what it is.

Good luck with the move!

Files have now been removed. I cheated a little bit and left active the links to the tools and source code to the tools. Let's hope GoDaddy is ok with that. Should be considering we just removed about 15,000 files and about 140GB or more. For the rest of the files, stay tuned for a solution.

Good luck finding a new host. "Unlimited" shared plans may be nice for a while, but if you want something that lasts it is going to cost you a bit more. I don't know what kind of bandwidth you were using, but it could be a good idea to look for storage-centric VPS services - many of which offer a few hundred GBs of storage and a few TBs of bandwidth per month for not too much, especially if you check sites like lowendbox for specials (https://lowendbox.com/tag/storage/). And this is storage and bandwidth that is  allocated to you specifically, so you won't run into issues like you have with GoDaddy.

Thank you. Knowing which host to choose is the least of our worries, I deal with cloud hosting on a daily basis, I have a good idea of what we need. There are other issues that come into play that we need to be mindful of. Anyway, I think we identified the best solution for us and we should begin migration soon.

I'm surprised a lot of people can't even take their time to at least check around the forums to find this post instead of just posting about how all the links are dead. Seeing another thread about this hurts my head

Mainly for the mods: Is there a way to make this a fully globally pinned announcement? I know it's pinned in this section but I'm sure a huge handful of newer members don't even know you can scroll down this far in the forums ha.

If there's an easy way to make it happen, it might be a good idea. I know you guys are getting more and more frustrated with having to answer the same posts that come up daily now =/

Yeah, not easy, hence why it's not there...
