Howdy! Since joining this site in November 2015, I promised myself that I would start doing customs at some point. Well, after 10 months of procrastinating, I finally bit the bullet and decided to figure this stuff out. It took approximately 100-120 hours of work---including individual moments where I thought I was going to lose my mind---but my first custom has finally been completed: the song "Black Sabbath," by the band Black Sabbath, off the album entitled Black Sabbath.

More Sabbath is coming (I promise), but I thought I'd chart a great song from a band that actually covered Sabbath at one point. I'm speaking, of course, of Faith No More. Here's "RV" from their criminally under-rated album Angel Dust. If anyone's interested in doing pro keys and/or harmonies for this one, let me know.

I decided to switch gears a bit for my 3rd full custom. This is the first song off Steely Dan's critically-acclaimed album "Aja." This one features some funky bass/guitar work, a groove-laden drum track, and lots of things to do on keys---including an electric piano solo and a sax solo. Have fun!

Given how much AC/DC has been added to the database over the years, I was kind of surprised that this bad boy hadn't been charted yet. Sure, there's the live version that was released back in 2008, but in my opinion that version doesn't do this song justice. It's played way too fast and Brian Johnson's voice sounds just awful. Anyway, enough griping. Here's the original version of "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)."

One of the best selling singles of all time! It's about 3 minutes longer than it should be, but you'll definitely have a good time singing this one. Highlights include: some crazy vocal gymnastics from Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen doing a Joe Cocker impression, and Cyndi Lauper spouting gibberish.

The Canadian response to "We Are the World." Highlights include: a verse in French, a great line from Geddy Lee (back when he could still shriek), and Neil Young contemplating our lost innocence.

ZdYpGLT.jpg

http://d.c3universe....e12082.28359615

The one that started it all! Highlights include: some very strange lyrics about Africa not having any rivers, a surprisingly grueling drum track, and Sting actually singing the word "sting" in one of the verses.

This is one of my favorite songs by The Who. In fact, I was really disappointed that Harmonix didn't include it in those song packs they released several years ago. Regardless, here it is. Have fun!

UPDATE: Spindoctor was kind enough to do reductions for me.

A lost gem from one of the greatest rock n' roll acts of all time. They sat on this bad boy for 21 years before releasing it as part of the Led Zeppelin box set in 1990. This one is fun as hell!

Some pre-Christmas Sabbath for ye! Thanks to AJFOne23 for doing the drums, the tempo map, and the venue.

This game definitely needs more Rolling Stones. Here's a classic deep cut from "Exile On Main Street."

Oh hey, didn't expect to see this anytime soon.

Thank you much, looking forward to when you do reductions (if you're not using CAT, it'll take a while to do, requires much patience).

It's always an interesting conversation with Black Sabbath.

"What are you listening to?"
"Black Sabbath."

"The song, album, or band?"

"Yes."

Unfortunately, I was so focused on learning Reaper and Magma over the past couple weeks that I ignored all the information about CAT. Can you recommend one discussion in this forum where the basics of using CAT are discussed? Ultimately, I'd prefer to do automatic reductions, as it seems that a lot of customs are produced this way.

Nice, looking forward to more.

There will definitely be more. I chose to start my authoring career with this song because of how few Sabbath songs are included in both the original game and the customs community. "Paranoid," "War Pigs," and "Iron Man" are great, but Sabbath has a lot of deep cuts that could be a lot of fun to play on Rock Band...

That's great hear; I fully agree that Sabbath is underrepresented.

Aaaaaand of course I just noticed an issue with overdrive while playing the drums. I'll be sure to fix this for the next update, when I do the reductions.

Steely Dan is an exceptional artist to pick.  I still feel that "Do It Again" is one of my favorite guitar hero songs to play on guitar.  Thanks for bringing more Dan to the game.

I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one! Thanks for such an excellent cut of Steely Dan. It's very much appreciated, mrcoupdetat. Good gawd, grabbing this just made me realize that 'Peg' and 'Josie' aren't in the database. How can this be?!?

I'll definitely be doing more, but not right away. This was easily the most grueling custom I've done so far. The musicianship is just off the charts. The drums were the only part of this song that was relatively straight-forward.

Or Deacon Blues. And then there's the dozens of songs from other albums that should be on here: Any Major Dude, Barrytown (a personal favorite), King of the World, Brooklyn, Green Earrings, Doctor Wu, etc.

You're welcome! I'm loving your Weird Al customs by the way. The polka medleys are exceptionally well done.
