Greetings everyone!

I'm new to charting my own Rock Band songs. So this will by my first chat that I'm doing.

I was inspired since I was going to do a custom song for Orpheus by Ash to find it was already done. So I just had to give back to you guys by doing one myself.

I'm currently trying to follow tutorials but the seem to be a bit scattered in some areas. I managed to figure out how to download Reaper and all that, but anyways! Onto the actual song I'm working on.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the song, here is a YouTube Link to the song I'm working on.

Currently, I've done the Tempo Mapping and the Expert Guitar part of the Song:

Here are some pictures of the chart:

1 2 3 4

I'm going to try and work on the Drums and Vocals next. Drums will be the harder of the two as I can't really pick out different drum sounds just yet. I'm not even sure what the Bass is playing in the song but I know it's there so I'll have to figure that out as well.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish this so people can try it out.

I'll try to post back here with updates or if I need help. :D

If there's anything you want to see, or tips you think I don't know; please feel free to leave them below!

Edit #1:

Vocals are harder than I thought. I'm going to need to do a bit more research to get it down.

Edit #2:

Vocals don't seem right and I can't get the hang of them. Posting the File to see if anyone would like to pick them up. If not, I'll just finish the song without Vocals.

The Man Who Broke His Own Heart - 10-22-2015 4:50PM

Parts Done:

Tempo Mapped

Guitar: Expert Charted

Drums: Expert Charted

Bass: Expert Charted

Working On:

Vocals: In Progress / Having Trouble

Animations: Will work on after Vocals

Venue: Work on after Animations

Lighting: Work on after Venue

If you want good feedback, you'll have to include the audio with the chart.  Disembodied images are too hard to figure out.

Good methods include:

- Post a video of playing the song in-game

- Posting the RPP and audio

- Posting the rb3con

- In the little research I have done, I don't think I have anything in order to actually play the song in game. I don't have Rock Band 3 anymore nor do I have an xBox

- I'm guessing RPP stands for Reaper something, next guess would be the actual project file. That I could try and do. What sites do you recommend for hosing such files?

- As of this post I don't know what rb3con is. I'll have to search on here and get a bit more knowledge under my belt.

So, I've tried to give Vocals a shot but it just doesn't seem like they are accurate.

I've completed about 1/4th of the song so far and it just feels like it's very wrong and I'd like for someone to give me pointers or tips and see if I'm going in the correct direction.

Any other help with charting it would be awesome too.

Here is the link to the Reaper File and the Song Audio.

If you're missing anything else to make the project work properly, let me know.

Your timing isn't too bad, but the pitches need more work.

Here's your original chart on top of the first phrase, and mine an octave lower (with the corrected pitches):

How are you getting these results? Are you still using the method in the vocal video that you have posted?

Currently I'm using Ultimate Guitar's Tuning portion of the app for my iPhone 6+. Perhaps it isn't as accurate to what you are using.

I'm just using the ReaSynth plugin (to compare the Reaper MIDI output) and my ears.

Could you explain a bit more how you are accomplishing this?

Obviously you can't explain the by ear thing. I'm semi-familiar with the ReSynth Plugin but I'm not sure how to use it fully and make these type of notes.

How are you gauging where they start and end? I'm seeing some of mine start a bit later than what you have.

How long did using this process take you?

Sure:

- Click on the fx of PART VOCALS so it's green instead of red, if it wasn't green already

- Solo SONG AUDIO and PART VOCALS, so they're the only tracks generating output

- Use scrub mode to find the start of a syllable

- Draw a note in PART VOCALS and drag it up or down until the pitch matches the singer

- Find the end of the syllable and adjust.

This took me under 10 minutes, but since I've charted vocals for hundreds of songs, you shouldn't use my rate as a guideline ;)

Cool! Thanks for your help!

I'll see if I can work on this a little later. I have another song I'm working on to occupy my frustration with vocals. :D

Another question I have (if you know the answer) is that reading over the Guide for Animations and Venue and Lighting, is there anything more you might have link ready to reference what each of those text-events are? Or maybe even a video showing what each lighting and camera angle does.

Edit: I think I found my answer to the above question further reading the RBN Documentation.

There's a link in the docs to a video showing all the postprocessing effects.  There are a couple more showing lighting.

Camera angles are a bit different, because the game selects randomly from a few variations on each.

Thanks! I just found it a few minutes after posting my question.

You're help has been awesome! I'll see if I can't get my songs almost finished soon. =D

Alright, I'm still really having trouble with this song. If anyone wants to pick up the vocals and do them correctly or take me step by step how to pick these out; that'd be awesome. I just can't get the hang of them.
