Issue bundling upgrades for certain songs?

Recommended Posts

First off, loving the new update, and very glad I can at least get started combining all my custom pro guitar and RBHP upgrades.

I started off with the RB1 disc files, which I extracted using Quick Pack Editor from the original files(I don't know why, I think I just wanted every file as what I'd consider a "custom", not the original file). I've tested the first 10 files alphabetically by artist, they show up individually, they show up when grouped using Pack Creator. My main issue is that Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time" shows up, acknowledges that the upgrades are there, but freezes whenever I select harmonies (but not solo vocals). Any ideas you could toss out there?

I've tried bundling the upgrades into the Quick Pack unpacked file and the original exported-from-RB1 file, both seem to do the same thing (shows upgrades, freezes when harms are picked). Have yet to go beyond the first ten files, hoping to nip this one in the bud if I'm making some kind of simple mistake.

Adding another piece of the puzzle, all the songs that couldn't load after bundling are ones that have short versions in RB1. Going to keep poking around to see if I can fix anything.

It's funny, I actually thought of that as a potential cause yesterday, but I'd shut my PC down already for the night and figured I'd just mention it in the morning.

I would suggest just culling that information from the .dta file -- it's only going to impact vocals-only play, if the 'short version' thing even works in RB3 (I've never played the tracks solo vocals in RB3 tbh).

I'll test it a little later, making a run to the flea market to look for treasure. I bundled all the HP and all the Ziggy/Columbo pro upgrades that I could find with the RB2 disc, made 10-song packs, have gone through and tested to see if the pro upgrades worked. Many did, and the ones that didn't I suspect are the fault of the pro guitar CONs. Some I'm kind of sad about (Wave of Mutilation is very slightly off-timed, doesn't line up with regular guitar notes), but I'm sure could be fixed by poking around in the guts. Will try bundling them differently another time.

Good luck at the flea market. The only sellers of note here are 'professional' used game dealers (assuming we're talking gaming treasure) so there are never treasures to be found. Well, I mean, I did get a good deal on LttP CIB, but other than that, it's all overpriced stuff. No, I will not pay $70 for your copy of Suikoden w/ a cracked front & back jewel case.

Oh wow, just tried swapping in the HP _plus MIDI and songs.dat files, song displayed harmonies, started up, and immediately ended. I pass/failed at 0%.

Going to have to edit the dta, would you mind walking me through what I'll need to swap out/change?

So yeah you don't want to straight up swap the .mid file. You need to merge the two together in a DAW, basically incorporating the harmony/keys/whatever tracks into the original .mid file... which is what the bundler should be doing. So take that .mid out, import it into Reaper or w/e, and see if all the necessary pieces are there (or look to be there). If the .mid that was in there looks right, you'd just have to replace/edit the songs.dta file.

In the songs.dta file, there's a separate chunk for the short version that needs to be deleted. I'd have to rip a fresh one to take a look -- if time permits I'll take a look at that tonight, too, unless someone else gets it sorted for you.

So far I've noticed I can't straight-up delete the short version folder in CON explorer. Attempts to 'unpack' the file results in a file that only contains the short version, and won't work in-game (either freezes or "unable to load" screen)

Sounds to me that you only have the short version midi in the con whereas the upgrade is for the long version.

I'm assuming you downloaded the Rock Band 1 import pack from xbox360isos, like I did, whoever put that pack together ripped out the long midis of these songs!

I downloaded the single file versions of the songs and they contained both long and short midi files. I then unpacked the files, deleted the short midi file, edited the dta to remove the short vocal version and rebuilt the con and then it worked.

Remove the section marked by the red line.

Include the blue section (from the RBHP .dta) if there are harmonies.

Include the green sections (from the RBHP .dta) if there are keys/pro keys.

Also include all the junk at the end of the RBHP file if you want.
