Two of my favorite bands collide and bring their best!
What started out as a tribute album to Sparks by the likes of Faith No More, Erasure, Jimmy Somerville and others soon became an official Sparks album of reimaginings and collaborations of some of the Maels' material.
Charting the vocals here was a challenge for a relative newb, but the spitfire delivery and high tempo forced the singers to stay relatively tight to the beat, which helped.
The biggest conundrum for me though: who's vocals are the lead, Russell's or Mike's?
Mike's are more prominent in the mix when he leaves his falsetto, and he does the most fun theatrical bits, which really made me want to give him the lead track.
BUT. It is a "Sparks feat. FNM" track... so that properly seems to suggest Russell gets the nod. The clincher for me is that the first verse is sung by Russell solo (most of the rest are sung by them in unison with occasional trade offs), and it would be weird to have the lead vocalist sitting out the entire opening.
