Author Notes

A classic track from Steely Dan's first album Can't Buy A Thrill. Though it was written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, "Dirty Work" was sung by David Palmer, who would eventually leave the band after the tour for this album drew to a close.

In terms of playability, this one isn't overly challenging, although it does feature some odd phrasing on guitar and a fun little sax solo (charted on keys). Enjoy!

UPDATE (February 23/2017): MrPrezident has been kind enough to give this custom full 2 part harmonies.

By the way, I should mention that the harmonies in this custom are really basic. I'm pretty sure the song has two-part harmonies, but my ear just isn't good enough to untangle them on a single-track audio file. However, if anyone wants to take a stab at giving this song the full harmony treatment, let me know via PM and I'll send you the project files.

Thanks for more Steely Dan, great song.  Also, during the sax solo - I think the keyboard player should have to hold the keyboard up to his lips for extra Steely Dan points.

Excellent.  Love playing Steely Dan in Rock Band!

Thanks. This is my most liked song by Steely Dan.  The lyrics tell a quite a story. Steely Dan is named after a vibrator and I think that is what this song is about.

I was surprised they were the band that also did the song "Peg". I only discovered they were the band a couple of years ago even though I had heard it on the radio for years. I had to Shazam it because I didn't know the name of the song either.

Yeah, by classic rock act standards, Steely Dan has a small, but incredibly devoted, fanbase.  They wrote some of the most interesting (both musically and lyrically) songs of their time.

I love playing their tunes on Rock Band.  Generally really fun on all instruments.

I don't know all of their material, but this song is probably my favorite. Thanks.
