Author Notes

There are moments I've been proud during this time of charting, like getting a complicated drum fill just right to where it reflects actual drumming even though it might not be 1:1 accurate or smoothing out a rough vocal track, but this one has climbed to the top.

This is my first in the line of "Project Once-Over" where I go back through all my beginner customs and ensure they are capturing everything I learned to bring their quality way up. I'm pleased to introduce this one as my first (don't expect ALL of them to be this overhauled - this one got a bit of luck).

See the update notes to really see how this one was blown up and completely revamped.

HUGE, HUGE UPDATE 7/20/18
* Multitracks!!!
* New numeric id
* Pro Keys added (yup - hell hath frozen over - and it did force me to learn to play the keyboard)
* Guitar dropped (you win @Atruejedi)
* Every last instrument that was charted before has been touched and follows their respective track accurately
* Added better lip sync
* Futzed with the venue to be in sync with those playing their instruments. Put the crowd on chill so they weren't amped at this song

Whoa awesome!!! Ben Folds is always appreciated. If you plan on doing more, the stems to the album Way to Normal are available in its entirety.

Was nice of him to officially release them =-). Wish I liked his newer stuff the way I like his older.

I love all things Ben Folds (yes, even songs from the bizarre Lonely Avenue) and really appreciate you beginning this custom... I say beginning because it's obviously incomplete without pro keys! They're pretty iconic, so I hope somebody volunteers to help out! :)

I do take issue with you placing the keys chart in the guitar slot... I need to make progress with keys songs, and this would be perfect! After all, a guitarist can choose to play the keys part if he or she wants. Plus, the C3 official release of Zak and Sara has no guitar part either, so that isn't a problem...

You can play keys from the guitar the same way; however, you can't have HOPOs, which is why I did it in reverse. Charting guitar allows HOPOs natively and then when transcribed to keys, it plays as it should. Just played it on keys; if I were any good, it'd probably be real fun (despite not having pro mode even). =-)

Moreover, if anyone wants to switch it they can always just take the midi, rename PART GUITAR to PART KEYS and adjust the .dta file accordingly.

I'm confused, though, because the guitar part that represents the piano only has like 10 hammer-ons total. Working as designed? It felt strange strumming the entire song.

P.S. This song doesn't have a numeric ID to keep scores.

I WIN. Thank you for the fantastic update. I will try to play this on the Wii tonight to confirm the multi-tracks work for Wii us.

Can confirm it works wonderfully on the Wii. Thanks! But I have a question. Maybe it's just me, but does this mix sound... different from the original version? Something about it sounds off... not in a bad way. Maybe it's just because I never hear it from my television speakers? Or because I haven't listened to it in a long time? Hm.

Had to mix these tracks with precision as the original mix had Folds SCREAMING out the lyrics and entirely drowned out everything else. Had to mix his voice way down, bring the drums and bass way up and even out the piano. Did I get it just like the original? Probably not, as whoever did the studio recording surely had better skills than I. But, quite frankly, in the original, it was very hard to hear the nuances of the bass and drums over the over mixed piano. So I just ensured every instrument you played you could hear clearly; very similar to how HMX brings up certain tracks so they are enjoyable to that instrument. This is probably the "difference" you are hearing. Welcome to the world of multi tracks!

Ben folds is one of my absolute favourite artists and I can see that everything in that preview is charted super well. However it sounds really really off, especially the vocals which sounds like a robot is singing along to this. And I heard you turned up the bass, it might just be that I like the original so much, but it doesn't sound very good in my opinion.

Also I read earlier that you gave the piano to the guitar and reverted it. I do agree that you should revert that, however I was thinking, if you wanted to have the guitarist do something, you should have charted the Organ to the guitar, as the keys aren't playing it (like how the guitar does the Brass part in Superstition). Although this isn't even slightly necessary at all, I only brought it up as I read that you wanted to give the guitar player something to do.

But yeah you don't have to follow any of these criticisms, but I though I would give my opinion on that.

But as I said everything is charted correctly so thanks for that, but I feel that this chart could still be greatly improved.

Love him as well but haven't charted much more than this due to the keys. So whenever you're ready to take charting keys on, hit me up. Dead serious. I'll tempo map, do the drums and bass like nobody's business and then pass you the file for the keys. Ready to do some of his original stuff (newer stuff is okay, but nothing matches the magic of his older stuff).
