"Back to School (Mini Maggit)" was the second single from Deftones' formative third album, White Pony. This is despite the fact that the song didn't even appear on the album's original release, being a heavily altered version/reinterpretation of the album's closer "Pink Maggit". It was, however, unceremoniously incorporated into the album as its opener in reissues by the label. The song is one of the most contentious in the band's catalog. It has been stated that the song was written under pressure by the label to produce a more commercial hit from the album. Unlike "Pink Maggit", which is a subtle, seven-minute ballad ripe with atmospherics and a powerful punch of a hook, "Back to School" recontextualizes the song's chorus into a nu/rap metal jam which is overtly about the high school experience.
