Sam CookeA Change Is Gonna Come
Release Type: User Audio Type: Single-track Reductions: Yes (Auto/CAT) Pitched Vocals: Yes Vocals Gender: Male (1)
What remains as still one of the most important songs of its time, A Change Is Gonna Come was written by Sam Cooke to support the civil rights movement in the '60s. It's tragic that this song was released after his early death, although I'm sure when he wrote it, he had already knew its importance, even if only to himself.
It never was prominently featured in any television or film due to a huge dispute involving the publisher and record company, which affected other artists as well. The disputes have since been settled, and the song has been able to be used in talent shows such as American Idol and The Voice.
This song has lived with me for years and it's an honor and a privilege to bring it into the RB Customs database. The most important thing for me was to get the vocals right, so I hope you feel I did justice to this piece. For the drums, I openly and knowingly broke the rules and alternated between drums (standard and timpani), so you will see some snare hits missing during the timpani parts as they were unruly and served to irritate the rhythm (as it's not accurate to be playing both at the same time anyway). The bass is straightforward and easy and there is no guitar part.
This custom is part of Project Once-Over, and has the following updates:
* New tempo map courtesy of AJFOne23 (the other one just wasn't quite right)
* Dryvox added for better lip sync
* Drums revamped (now proper tone on timpani's are emulated on the correct drum pad)
* Vocals polished up
* New song id
* New preview to reflect above changes
